Bellaire Homes for Sale

The City of Bellaire is a small ‘city within a city’ on what used to be the outskirts of Houston. Founded in 1908, Bellaire began Bellaire Homeswhen the owner of a large land company bought the 10,000 square foot Rice Ranch owned by the William Marsh Rice family of Rice University fame.

Bellaire is surrounded on all sides by Houston, Meyerland, West University Place and Southside Place. It is located east and west of Interstate Loop 610 and is a very sought after address these days because of its proximity to downtown and the Galleria.

Many of the original small homes for sale in Bellaire have been bought for their land value and torn down to make way for the multi-story luxury residences you see nestled closely together along the shady streets with names like Cedar, Wisteria, Holly and Evergreen . Despite the flurry of new construction, one still experiences a feeling of quaintness while driving through Bellaire where small 1950 ranch homes share the neighborhood with modern day executive homes.

Bellaire TheaterBellaire has its own mayor, city council, police and fire departments and an active community center. The children who live here attend schools in the Houston Independent School District. Bellaire High School consistently ranks highly and boasts numerous National Merit Scholarship finalists each year.

There are about 400 residences in Bellaire with a median price of $457,520. Reflecting the many tear down and rebuild projects over the last two decades, the average year built for homes in this sleepy community is 1988. The price per square foot has about doubled since 1994 when it was $83.78 compared to $166.80 in 2005.
